There are more books and seminaries than there ever has been on the book of Revelation, the end-times, and the second coming of Christ. But at the same time, there has never been such a worldly superficial crowd of professing believers that have a “form of godliness” (2Tim 3:5) but deny the power of Christ to save and keep them from committing sin.
It is clear that what is getting into people’s head is not going down into their heart – as every true believer that has the hope of Christ’s coming in their heart will “purifieth himself, even as he [Christ] is pure” (1Joh 3:3).
If you have the hope of Christ’s coming working in your life, you will – by the grace of God – be “work[ing] out your salvation” (Phi 2:12) and “perfecting holiness” (2Cor 7:1) to the degree that you will be purifying yourself.
About a year and a half ago, I realized that there were times where I didn’t think about the Lord’s coming for a week or more. I got a hold of 1 John 3:3 in my heart and started praying daily that God would increase my hope for the coming of Christ. Also in my morning devotions, I look out the bedroom window up into the sky and remind myself that Jesus may come today.
These practices in and of themselves will not guarantee an increase in your soul, but according to scriptures they will help you overall in your pursuit of greater dedication and zeal to increase in personal holiness.
To increase in your looking for, your love of, and your hope of the coming of Christ is one more way to grow to be more Christ like and grow in your personal devotion to God.
I suggest that you memorize the below scriptures, daily pray that God will increase your hope for Christ’s coming, and to daily remind yourself that Jesus could come today by spending some time watching the sky for him.
Keep in mind when you pray for a greater desire for Christ’s coming, that God may send you trials to wean you from the love of this life down here.
Scriptures to Memorize:
2Ti 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.
1Jn 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
2Pe 3:11,12 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;
Questions:
–Would you be ready if Jesus came right now?
–If you aren’t ready, what are you going to do about it?
–Can you say that you truly have a desire for Christ to come?
–Are you happy living down here on earth or would you rather go to heaven?
–Will you commit daily to remind yourself in your morning devotions that Christ may come today?
