Follow JesusWe are called to follow Jesus and to “walk in the same manner as He walked” (1Joh 2:6 NASB) for he left us “an example” that we “follow in His steps” (1Pet 2:21 NASB).

And how did Jesus walk? He was “anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power” and “went about doing good” (Act 10:38 NASB). It was prophesied of him that the “ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME” (Joh 2:17 NASB).

Jesus, “when He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it” (Luk 19:41 NASB). When Jesus saw the “people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd” (Mat 9:36 NASB).

This anointed, empowered, zealous, weeping, compassionate Prophet went about selflessly sharing the good news that “if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (Joh 8:36 NASB).

He instructed his converts “from now on, sin no more” (Joh 8:11 NASB), and that they were to “LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND” and to “LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF” (Mat 22:37, 39 NASB).

Jesus calls his people to the same anointed, empowered, zealous, weeping, compassionate work. His followers are to be “ready in season and out of season” (2Tim 4:2 NASB), they are to be “always abounding in the work of the Lord” (1Cor 15:58 NASB) following “the Lamb wherever He goes” (Rev 14:4 NASB).

May you and I be those that heed the call to this higher ground. Not to point people to ourselves, a sect, a congregation, or a doctrinal system, but to point people to “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (Joh 1:29)
