Blinking EyeSo in 1/6,000,000,000th of a second God can raise 43,740,000,000 people from the dead but you don’t think he has the power to change you and keep you from sinning.

Then you need the eyes of your understanding enlightened so you know what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.

I was working out the number of people that have died since the beginning of the world. I used Bishop Ussher’s date for the beginning of the world and population numbers from Wikipedia: World Population.

4004BC 2 to 1BC 200m
Average 100m x 80gen = 8b

1AD 200mil to 1000AD 310mil
Average 255m x 20gen = 5.1b

1000AD 310m to 1900AD 1,650m
Average 980m x 15gen = 24.750b

1900AD 1,650m to 2010 6,811m
Average 3,485.5m x 1.69gen = 5.89b

So I came up with the total number of people that have died as 43,740,000,000.

I have been memorizing and mediating on Eph 1:17-20.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.
–Eph 1:17-20

Here is what Adam Clarke has to say about verse 20.

According to the working of his mighty power] kata thn energeian tou kratouv thv iscuov autou? According to the energy of the power of his might. We may understand these words thus: MIGHT, iscuv, is the state or simple efficiency of this attribute in God; POWER, kratov, is this might or efficiency in action; ENERGY, energeia, is the quantum of force, momentum, or velocity, with which the power is applied.

Though they appear to be synonymous terms they may be thus understood: passive power is widely different from power in action; and power in action will be in its results according to the energy or momentum with which it is applied.

The resurrection of the dead is a stupendous work of God; it requires his might in sovereign action; and when we consider that all mankind are to be raised and changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, then the momentum, or velocity, with which the power is to be applied must be inconceivably great. All motion is in proportion to the quantity of matter in the mover, and the velocity with which it is applied.
–Adam Clarke 1Cor 1:19

So when Jesus comes back in a twinkle of an eye he is going to raise some 43.7 billion people from the dead.

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. — 1Cor 15:51-52

So how fast is a twinkle?

It is not the time it takes to blink an eye: for you to see someone’s eyes twinkle, light must travel through the front of their eye, be reflected off their retina, and then exit their eye.

Assuming (for the of ease of calculation) that you are standing close to that person so the transmission time from eyeball-to-eyeball can be regarded as instantaneous, and that a person’s eyeball is 2.5 cm in diameter, the light would have to travel a distance of 5cm (or 1/20,000th or 2×10-4 of a kilometer).

Since the speed of light is 300,000 (or 3×105) km/sec, this means it would take or 1/6 x 10-9 seconds (ie 1/2 x1/3 x 10-4 x 10-5 seconds), or 1/6,000,000,000th of a second to make a person’s eyeball twinkle: pretty fast.

Anyway I don’t know about you but my God is a big God that can do anything.

2Cor 2:14 always causeth us to triumph

2Cor 12:9-10 my grace is sufficient
Eph 1:3 blessed us with all spiritual blessings
Eph 1:19 exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward
Eph 6:13 that ye may be able to stand
Phil 2:13 to will and to do

hi bob, i can’t tell you how blessed and glad i feel to have discovered this site whilst looking for running/biking info. even cynics cannot argue with this scientific logic, which we know as simply THE truth. as i’ve been exploring the Word through this site, i have felt the forces of temptation against me, and i remember someone telling me that when you grow and have more fruit, you become more appealing to the devil and the flesh. i am full of resurrection hope this week and hope i can fight the good fight more so. thanks for your blog/posts/ministry - i pray it reaches and helps many.
