Autism RibbonAutism, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome or Asperger’s Syndrome (AS), Asperger or Asperger’s Disorder (AD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD), Rett’s Disorder (RD), Rett Syndrome (RTT).

Autism Spectrum Disorder effects about 1% of the population. Most of us know at least one or two families that have ASD children.

The above terms are used in different ways and some times what they all mean can be a bit confusing. I was Googling up Autism Spectrum Disorder this morning and found a good page of definitions that I thought I would share.

The Autism Soceity Canada has a page of Terms and Definitions that is a good place to start to better understand Autism.

There was quite a bit on the news last week concerning the murder-suicide in Edmonton, Canada of an 11 year old autic boy by his father. Needless to say having an autic child puts a difficult burden on any family.

Perhaps if you know of a family that has an autic children you can see if there is some way you can do to help once a month. Even if it would be something simple like bringing that child their favorite treat and letting the family know you are praying for them.
